"Loma" in Spanish means "hill," which perfectly reflects the topography of this beautiful peninsula that wraps around San Diego Bay. From the hilltop you can see far south into the land of Mexico. There are many spacious and expensive homes in Point Loma. From the hill it is hard to have a view that would not inspire you. Sights of Mexico, the bay, and Downtown San Diego at sunset are simply breathtaking. Because the terrain of Point Loma is so hilly, like stadium seating in a movie theater, many homes have some combination of sights. The majority of the homes on the peninsula were erected in the latter part of the 20th century, with condos and apartments making up 33% of the total consumer real estate in Point Loma.
Point Loma is also well known for its outdoor activities. Around this time of year, you can day trip to the national park named after Point Loma's discoverer, Juan Cabrillo, to watch the gray whales migrate for their mating season. Point Loma is also known for many other outdoor activities such as sailing, kite-boarding, and surfing at the picturesque Sunset Cliffs. Of educational note, the schools in Point Loma rank in the 70th percentile in the state of California. Any family would be lucky to live here.
