Investing in Downtown San Diego Real Estate

Downtown San Diego is known as the central business district of San Diego County. It's in the center of San Diego and is aptly nicknamed "Centre City."

There are many avenues connecting the Downtown district to the rest of the county and the rest of the country, including easy access to Interstate 5 and an $8 cab ride to the airport. Although this is a terrific traffic hub to tap into, keep in mind the converse circumstances: tons of air traffic. So make sure your agent is an ex-navy pilot who knows all the air traffic routes to increase your chances of staying as far out of the flight pattern so you can get a good night sleep.

Another thing to keep in mind is that Centre City is still on the rebound. Back in the '60s, the downtown area began its decade-long slump due to depressed economic circumstances. The early 70's saw the completion of the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge, the mid-80's brought Horton Plaza to life and stoked the high-rise fire, and in 2004 the city introduced San Diego residents to Petco Park, new home of the San Diego Padres.

So if you like startups and consider a purchase an investment as much as just a roof over your head there's plenty of opportunity, although the prices are not what you would call "rock bottom." This is also a good spot for you urban types, because in San Diego County, Downtown is as urban as it gets.
